Is New Jersey Becoming the New Silicone Valley?

As a man of New Jersey, I know that it can feel like we are a simple little brother to the big apple that sits next door to our state. This feeling actually tarnishes what is turning into quite the impressive cultural resume of New Jersey, we are the home of farming, The Sopranos, and The Mets. There is one industry that has gone under the radar but is absolutely booming in the New Jersey area; and that is that of the tech industry. With many stating that New Jersey is slowly becoming the Silicone Valley of the East coast. This passage will aim to examine the validity of this statement.

Budding Growth

New York may be jealous of the pest control of New Jersey which has completely cutting edge tech, of which you can find at companies like https://permakillexterminating.com/ this industry has led to a new economy of exports, with the pest control industry of New Jersey getting a lot of work in New York, bringing millions into the New Jersey economy. This obviously is not on the same level as Silicone Valley; and though New Jersey now dominates the pest control industry, is that enough to truly take the technological crown. Until New Jersey has a product that makes it into people’s homes then it can not make such a claim.

We should perhaps take a look at the steps that the New Jersey government has taken to try and entice tech companies into their state borders. Well, New Jersey has introduced tax breaks for the super-rich, I.E. the owners of these tech companies, and offered bursaries for companies that choose to make the move into the New Jersey area. The biggest thing that these companies can offer in return to the state is employment. With many of the local workers receiving employment from these giants. The introduction of tech giants can also stimulate the local economy. With everything from coffee shops to hairdressers to supermarkets receiving a boost from the bump in the local population.

The Issues

The biggest issue with the comparisons between the two states is that Silicone Valley is already so well established, while the New Jersey industry is still growing. Now, I must ask you when you think of Silicone Valley what tech companies come to your head? Apple… Facebook… Amazon… All are good answers. When you picture the state of New Jersey what tech companies come to your head? There is no truly established tech company that has decided to stay in the New Jersey area until the day comes where a company rejects Silicone Valley to remain in New Jersey there is no real competition between the two.

As the above passage does show New Jersey has a long way to go before they can catch up to Silicone Valley. The main problem that I found is that it truly does not matter what tax breaks New Jersey can offer, there is something in the shear status symbol of Silicone Valley, a symbol that money simply can’t buy. It is more of a statement that you have truly finally made it in the tech world, you are a Silicone Valley company… wow. Until the tech of pest control gains momentum in the stock market I doubt we will ever see New Jersey catch up.

How to Set up and Manage a Company Wide IT System

Starting a brand new IT system within your company can be a monumental task, with so many factors to consider prior to getting started it can be easy to become overwhelmed particularly if you are trying to do it all yourself. There are steps you can take to make the process less stressful like hiring an external company to do it for you or seeking consultation with IT professionals for advice. However, outside help can be expensive and may not be suitable for smaller businesses who have to take care of the money they spend on extra services, with that in mind below are a number of helpful tips to help with setting up and managing a company-wide IT system.

Sourcing Equipment

The first thing to do when it comes to setting up an IT system would have to be sourcing the physical equipment needed for your system, starting with the basics you are going to need multiple computers for your staff to work from. I would recommend doing substantial research into the computer’s specifications and price to ensure you get the best value for money, comparison websites are available and as you would be buying in bulk you should be able to find yourself a pretty good deal for multiple computer systems. Once you have found the perfect computer system the next process would be to look at how you are going to physically set up your IT system, if you are lucky enough to already have some form of office space, this would be perfect as a hub for your IT staff to work from. Having an area where your IT staff can work together would be ideal as it allows them to work together and improves the overall efficiency of your company.

Storage

With so many computer setups under one company having a cloud data storage system is a great way to make your company files and resources accessible for all your staff. Cloud storage is available from a variety of services like Google Drive and Dropbox, using online storage services like these reduces the need for physical storage devices like hard drives and is much more convenient for your workforce to access the files they need. As well as being extremely useful for file accessibility, cloud storage also provides peace of mind that your important files are protected as they can be backed up and restored at your convenience. For a company-wide IT system the fact that you can be sure all of your files are safe is a huge advantage for protection from external hackers or leaking of your companies information.

Security

Any IT system requires a level of security in order to protect your computers from viruses and other online threats, before setting up your IT system you should definitely invest in some form of virus protection to ensure that your company’s system is not left vulnerable. Services like Mcaffee and Norton have been commended on their effective virus protection for large scale businesses, but I would advise you to shop around to get the best deal and value for money. Another level of online protection you may want to implement within your company would be the blocking of sensitive content on your IT system, many companies choose to block websites that display content that isn’t suitable for the workplace in order to avoid an incident where these pages are accessed on company time. Many companies decide to purchase porn blocking software in order to ensure their staff is protected from the abundance of explicit content that is available online.

Management

With your IT system being such an integral part of your company, you may wish to think about who is going to be in charge of your company’s IT department. An IT manager may be more suitable for a large scale company in order to ensure that all of the necessary work is done to a professional standard, another benefit of having an IT manager would be that they allow for direct correspondence between your company and the IT staff. Effective communication is key to any business’s success and being able to directly communicate with someone who knows what is being done within the IT department is a particularly useful tool.

IT Support

In order to ensure that your IT system is an effective tool within your company, you will need to have a solid support system in place. In a situation where something goes wrong with your IT system having a support system that can quickly and effectively fix any technical problems can be the difference between a total technological standstill and an issue that can be easily fixed. There are many IT support businesses out there with reasonably priced contacts available, I would recommend sourcing a support contact as soon as you have set up your IT system, due to the unpredictability of having a tech issue it is better to be safe than sorry.

Overall, setting up your IT system doesn’t have to be a stressful process, with proper research and organization your business could have a fully functional IT system in very little time. As long as you have taken the necessary precautions with online security, storage, and tech support, your system should be up and running with little to no serious issues, allowing your business to expand technologically speaking.

The Modern Hunter: 5 Gadgets all Hunters Should Have

Successful hunting relies upon proper preparation, particularly if you are planning on embarking on a long hunting trip it is important that every eventuality has been considered and the necessary tools have been packed. If you find yourself in a situation whilst hunting, packing some of the new hunting gadgets that have appeared on the market can really help avoid unnecessary injury or other hindrances to the trip. Below are five examples of hunting gadgets that every hunter should have packed, in order to ensure your trip is a success.

Headlamp

If you are somebody who enjoys hunting at night, a headlamp is a must in order to ensure you can safely navigate through the hunting area and see your target. Injuries are a common occurrence during night hunting, and if you hunt in rougher terrain such as the woods then there is likely going to be many obstacles in your way. In order to effectively, stealthily and safely move through woods some kind of light source is definitely going to be required. Rather than using a conventional torch, a headlamp frees up your hands to carry other items, like your weapon, with the convenience and the fact that a headlight shines in the direction you are looking makes it a must have gadget for any hunter.

Satellite Phone

Another gadget that would be great for long distance hunting sessions would be a sat phone, in rural locations phone signals can be scarce and in the event of an emergency the last thing you want to have to deal with is not being able to contact help. A satellite phone is designed to be able to get through to someone regardless of the signal that is present in your location, which I’m sure we can all agree is a very useful gadget to have packed. Sat phones allow you to alert emergency services should you require their help, and even in the most rural locations a rescue party would be able to track the phones individual tracking signal in order to find you.

Long Range Scope

If you use a hunting or sniper rifle without a scope you are really hindering your chances of making a successful shot, over long distances the bullet can waver if you do not take into consideration distance when you are shooting. There is an abundance of scopes available on the market so check the best long range scope, before you go ahead with a purchase so you know you are getting something that is suitable for your hunting style. Using a long distance scope with your weapon allows you to make a clearer shot, as most of the newer models come with distance markers to help accommodate for the bullets movement whilst it travels towards your target, you are almost certainly going to see an improvement in your shooting if you decide to purchase a new scope.

Solar Wrap

A commonly overlooked issue that is faced by hunters is running out of battery on their many gadgets, new technology is very welcome to the industry but what many hunters are forgetting is that the tech runs on a finite amount of power. A great solution to this issue is the solar wrap, designed to be a portable solar panel that can be plugged into USB compatible devices, the solar wrap takes up a small amount of space and as long as there is sunlight available, is able to charge anything that uses a USB port in a surprisingly quick time.

Pocket Chainsaw

Whether you are chopping down firewood or constructing a small shelter, the pocket chainsaw is an extremely useful gadget for hunters and anyone else who works in an outdoor environment. The pocket chainsaw is basically a hand saw, reliant upon physical manpower to move a flexible blade to cut through wood. This gadget is relatively simple in its design but can prove to be very useful in the field.  At an affordable price you can pick one up at many outdoor equipment retailers as part of a set with spare teeth, purchasing this gadget is a no brainer as it can come in handy at the moments you would least expect.

The New Console War: What Next Gen Console Is For You?

If you are part of the gaming community, you have definitely heard the debate of whether or not the Playstation 5 or the Xbox Series X will be the next best console on the market. Now that all of the games and features have been announced, we all have a bit of time to decide which one we will be purchasing upon release. For some of you out there, deciding which one to purchase may be a difficult task. Fear not, we have put together some points of consideration that will help you decide which next-gen console is the best for you.

VR

One distinguishable difference between Xbox and Playstation is the inclusion of VR. Microsoft has no plans to develop any VR hardware for the Xbox and so if VR is something that you really want to experience, you are better off looking into getting a PlayStation 5. If you already have a VR setup, this can be moved from the PS4 to the PS5, so it will also save you a bit of money.

Games

One big difference between the two consoles that you should look into is which games they are capable of running. There are some games that have been specifically released for a certain console, so if you are excited about a specific game you should make sure you are buying the right console. If you have spent lots of time rocket league boosting and your new console doesn’t even have rocket league as a game option, then you have wasted a lot of time which will only annoy you in the future.

All in all, you should do a lot of research before you buy any of the next-generation consoles as they are quite expensive and offer lots of different features, they are not due to be released for a long time so you have plenty of time to think it through.

How Far has Underwater Tech come in the Last Twenty Years

While it may not seem like it, more than 70% of our planet’s surface is oceanic. This means that most of Earth’s life and most of Earth’s minerals are located underwater. However, since most of our oceans are unexplored and unmapped, we don’t really how much life is really down there. This is true to such an extent that we know more about the surface of the moon than we do about the surface of our ocean floors. What this does mean is that there is a huge amount of potential in regards to material wealth in the sea, and this has resulted in huge advances in underwater technology as more and more people aim to capitalize on our ocean’s untapped wealth.

Mapping the Ocean: Underwater Wireless Communication & Software-Defined Networking

One of the main advances in underwater technology, particularly in the last twenty years, is the development of underwater wireless communication (UWC). This has come as a result of the huge advances in the capabilities of Optical, Acoustic, and RF wireless carriers, which are used for underwater data transmission. In addition, the recent advent of the Internet of Underwater Things (IoUT) has had a huge impact on UWC as it has increased energy efficiency, data rates, and overall connectivity, and all of this will only improve with the introduction of G5 networks. This has all played a huge role in the development of our capabilities in water pollution observation, oil and gas exploration, naval security operations, and natural disaster surveillance. It has also been crucial in our abilities to observe marine life, a fact made clear by the most recent wildlife documentaries here in the States and over in the UK.
From these developments, it’s easy to see the potential for commercial and military applications when it comes to UWC.

Another way we explore the ocean is by using Underwater Acoustic Sensor Networks (UASN). However, it has become apparent in recent years that these networks are not efficiently equipped for the huge tasks they are built for. The reason it has become apparent is that we have developed much more efficient networks in the last twenty years, ones that rely on software rather than hardware. See the issue with UASN’s is that they rely on hardware infrastructure that has poor flexibility and versatility, which often leads to signal interference. Software-Defined Networks (SDN) on the other hand are much more flexible and reliable, and their use has to lead to massive leaps in ocean exploration in the last few years.

How have these Advances Affected us?

So, how has all this affected us – the general public? While we’ve mentioned better quality wildlife documentaries, there’s actually a lot of ways in which these advances have directly affected our lives at home. For instance, while SDN’s are being more frequently used now, this is only a recent development. For a very long time, we have been hyper-focused on improving underwater hardware for our communication. In the same way that advances in space exploration resulted in improvements in home appliances, these advances in underwater hardware technology have resulted in a number of improvements in the things we use in our own daily lives. For example, hoods for fish tanks are vastly superior in quality in comparison to 20 years ago. If you head over to https://inlandaquatics.com/best-aquarium-hoods you’ll get some great information on how they have improved. In addition to this, the technology used in home appliances like boilers and cookers has also benefited from our advances in underwater technology, though in a much more complicated way. While we can’t get into that now, just know that improvements in underwater technology will continue to improve our lives whether we know it or not.
